Cassia Seed Indications and Combinations.:
1.Upward disturbance of liver fire or invasion of exogenous wind and heat manifested as red, swollen and painful eyes and photophobia. Cassia seed (Juemingzi) is used with Chrysanthemum flower (Juhua), Mulberry leaf (Sangye), Capejasmine (Zhizi) and Prunella spike (Xiakucao).
2.Constipation due to dryness in the intestines. Cassia seed (Juemingzi) can be used alone.
For treating heat accumulation in large intestine, constipation due to intestinal dryness, it is used in combination with the drugs for relieving dryness and loosening the bowels, such as trichosanthes fruit, bush-cherry seed, etc.
3.Hyperactivity of liver yang manifested as dizziness, vertigo and blurred vision. Cassia seed (Juemingzi) is used with Uncaria stem (Gouteng) and raw Oyster shell (Muli).
4.Deficient yin of the liver and kidneys manifested as blurred vision and cataracts. Cassia seed (Juemingzi) is used with Flattened milkvetch seed (Shayuanzi), Tribulus fruit (Baijili), Grossy privet fruit (Nuzhenzi) and Wolfberry fruit (Gouqizi).
5.For treating conjunctival congestion, swelling and pain, dizziness and headache caused by the flamming-up of the liver-fire, it is used in combination with the drugs for clearing liver-fire and heat, such as gentian root, prunella spike. For treating blurring vision due to Yin deficiency, it is used together with wolfberry fruit and dodder seed to nourish liver and improve vsision.
6.Treat High Blood Pressure: dried and powdered the cassia seed, drink with hot water plus sugar,3 grams 3 times daily; or plus cassia seed 15grams with Prunella spike 10grams,1 solution daily,30 days period could treat high blood pressure.
7.Treat conjunctivitis: mix cassia seed 6grams,Ramose Scouring Rush Herb 9grams,Dendranthema Flower 4.5 grams,boiling in hot water and taken 1 solution daily prove god effects.
8.Skin diseases, and leprosy:Seeds and leaves are used for skin diseases, and leprosy. Leaf decoctions (made by adding 1 part leaves to 10 parts water) given in two ounce doses to children, removes fevers during teething. The herb also eases skin itch and eruptions when it is given mixed with lime juice.
