Eucommia Bark Cortex Eucommiae Eucommia Ulmoides Cortex Eucommia ulmoides oliv  10-15g (Decoction.boiled in water for oral use),The traditional amount of eucommia bark is 10-15 grams, boiled in water for oral use.Stir-baked eucommia has better effects than the unprepared.The stir-fried bark is stronger than raw bark to lower blood pressure, and a decoction is stronger than a tincture.
 The fried herb is more effective than the raw herb. Eucommia bark (Duzhong) is contraindicated in cases with deficiency of yin with excessive fire.
 Contraindications: There has never been a case of overdosing on Eucommia recorded in the literature (over a period of more than twenty-five hundred years).
 Precautions:It should not be used in cases of hyperac-tivity of fire due to yin deficiency. Patients with hyperactive fire and yin deficiency should use this herb with caution.

 Indications and Dosage from CP for Cortex Eucommiae(Du Zhong):The CP(Chinese-Pharmacopia) noted the herb Cortex Eucommiae(Du Zhong) as the dry bark(cortex) of the Eucommiaceae family plant Eucommia ulmoides Oliv.Collect during April to June.It noted the herb taste sweet,warm.Enter into liver,kidney meridians.Main functions replenish liver and kidney,strengthen muscles and bones,miscarriage prevention.Indicated for lumbago due to deficiency of the kidney,muscle and bone weakness(jin wei),pregnancy leakage,threatened abortion,hypertension(high blood pressure,feritin,arterial hypertension).Suggested Dosage 6~9 grams.Store at dry ventilated place.

 Indications and Dosage from CHMM for Eucommia Bark(Du Zhong):The CHMM(Chinese Herbal Materia Medica) defined the herb Eucommia Bark(Du Zhong) as the dry bark(cortex) of the Eucommiaceae family plant Eucommia ulmoides Oliv.Collect during April to June.It noted the herb taste sweet,slight hot(pingent),nature warm.Enter into liver and kidney meridians.Main functions tonify liver and kidney,strengthen muscles and bones,miscarriage prevention.Indicated for lumbar pain,asynodia(sexual impotence,impotentia),frequent micturition,dribble after voiding,rheumatism pain arthralgia,threatened abortion,habitual abortion.Suggested Dosage internal as decoction 6~15 grams,or infusing with wine,or into pellets or powder.(2)

 Eucommia Bark.:Toxicity Study

 Toxicity of Eucommia Bark extract:

 No death or changes in physical conditions resulted from administering alcohol-based extract of Du Zhong to mice at 40g/kg for three consecutive days.Reference:Zhu Li Qing, et al. Journal of Chinese Materia Medica. 1986;17(12):15.

 Neither does death result from a one-time gastrolavage of water-based extract of Du Zhong at the dosage of 120g/kg.Reference:Li Xian Ping, et al. Journal of Chinese Patented Medicine Research. 1988;(1):15-16.

 Toxicity of Eucommia decoction:

 Eucommia decoction 15-25g/kg to rabbits orally, only mild depression, no symptoms of poisoning.Mice and even served the same dose of a total of five days,also no death.LD50 intravenous injection to mice was 574.1 ± 1.0g(crude drug)/kg.Intraperitoneal injection of 600g (crude drug)/kgl times,animals prostrate, quiet, two hours after the resumption of normal activities,sometimes contorted responses were observed seven days no death.Intraperitoneal injection of 500g (crude drug)/kg,1 times a day,for six consecutive times,the animals did not appear dead.For guinea pigs,after intraperitoneal injection 10-15g/kg,3-5 days,half of the animals died.Subacute test,Eucommia decoction on rats,guinea pigs,rabbits and dogs with mild renal tissue edema degeneration of heart,liver and spleen tissue without lesions.(2)
