Actions: Modified citrus pectin has putative anticarcinogenic activity.
Modified citrus pectin (MCP), also known as fractionated pectin, is a complex polysaccharide obtained from the peel and pulp of citrus fruits. Modified citrus pectin is rich in galactoside residues, giving it an affinity for certain types of cancer cells. Metastasis is one of the most life-threatening aspects of cancer and the lack of effective anti-metastatic therapies has prompted research on MCP's effectiveness in blocking metastasis of certain types of cancers, including melanomas, prostate, and breast cancers.
This compound, which is extracted from the peel and pulp of citrus fruits, is receiving a lot of attention for its potential ability to stop the growth and spread of certain types of cancer, including melanomas, prostate, and breast cancer. Scientists now believe that modified citrus pectin (MCP) may actually bind to cancerous cells and inhibit their growth.

Properties:

Pharmacology:There is little on the pharmacokinetics of modified citrus pectin in humans. Based on rat studies, modified citrus pectin is probably absorbed to some degree following ingestion. However, research is necessary to determine its absorption efficiency, as well as its distribution, metabolism and excretion.
Dosage:Start with 1 teaspoon (5 grams) daily.Gradually increase to 2-3 teaspoons daily or as recommended by your health care professional,15 grams per day in three divided doses. For daily maintenance 1/2-1 teaspoon can be used. Mix in a blender with 8 oz of water juice or other liquid and drink immediately. For chelation purposes, 5-15 grams of MCP should be taken per day depending on mercury levels for one year. Maintenance at 2-5 grams per day thereafter is usually sufficient.
