Oyster Description.:
Shell of Ostrea gigas In elongated pieces, dorsal and ventral edges almost parallel, 10~50 cm long, 4~15 cm high. The right shell relatively small, scales strong and thick, arranged in laminated or laminating striated order. The outer surface smooth or with several depressions. Pale purple, grayish-white or yellowish-brown; the inner surface porcelain white, without denticles at both sides of the umbo. The left shell with deep depression, scales bigger and more rough than those of the right shell, attachment surface of the umbo small. Texture hard, fracture laminated, white. Odourless; taste, slightly salty.
Shell of Ostrea talienwhanensis Subtriangular, dorsal and ventral edges V-shaped. The outer surface of the right shell pale yellow, with loose concentric scales undulating up and down; the inner surface white. The concentric scales of the left shell strong and thick, with several distinct ribs radiated from the umbo, the inner surface concaved in shape of a box; hinge surface small.
Shell of Ostrea rivularis Rounded, oval or triangular. The outer surface of the right shell slightly uneven, grey, purple, brown, yellow, ect; concentric scales in a ring, thin and fragile in the young and overlapped one another several years later. The inner surface white, sometimes the edge pale purple.

Ostrea rivularis Gould: shell big,thick and hard,shape round,egg,triangle or long egg,back edge eight.Right shell 12 cm~25 cm longer than left shell,height 8 cm~15 cm,light flat smooth,outside shell concentric squama,young oyster squama thin,squama layer upon layer after years,solid and thick,surface color pale grey,greenish blue,purple,brown,inside shell surface white,margins grey purple,no tooth,close muscle big,shape kidney or hemicycle,dark purple,left shell 13 cm~25 cm long,height 9 cm~18 cm,thick and hard,squama similar as right shell,less layer,white inside surface,margin colors grey purple,ligament long and broad.
Ostrea denselamellosa Lischke: shell surface big and hard thick,shape rotund and egg,triangle or square,auris grows on shell tops,size similar of left and right shell.Right shell 6.5~13.5 cm long,width 6~12 cm,flat and smooth,squama closed to top shell point,smooth,other part squama intimate,ligule shape,thin,array as cover tile.Several ribs radiate from top ,not very distinct,space between rib wider than rib width,for the existence of radiated rib,squama and shell margins shape ripple,surface grey base and mingled with purple,brown or green.Surface color white,shine,margins grows brown ripple like squama layers,denticle grows on both sides of shell top,about 5~8,close muscle big and centered to shell back,kidney shape,color fleshcolor or yellow brown,shell top ligament brown purple.Left shell 7 cm~14 cm length,same height as right shell,ourter surface of shell grows concentric squama thick and hard,top rib crassitude,shell margin grows big saw teeth,numbered similar as rib number,surface of shell color purple,yellow brown or light grey blue.Shell inside concave,veins shell narrower,top sides grows small denticle,wavilness around,inside shell shape and color similar as right shell.
Ostrea plicatula Gmelin: small size shell,thin and easy broken,triangle shape.Right shell size smaller than left shell,5 cm~5.5 cm long,height 3 cm~4 cm,smooth and flat,outer surface shell grows concentric squama layers,undulance,young oyster squama edge needle thorn,less thorn after years,shell surface color light yellow,mingled with grey blue,purple brown or black vitta.Inside surface color white or grey white,shell top no denticle,close muscle back side,egg shape,yellow brown color.Left shell 5 cm~6 cm long,width 3.5 cm~4.5 cm,adhesive surface big,radiate ribs grows from top shell,squama goes close up at top,shell color lighter than right shell,inside surface color grey white,protruding fall deep,veins surface smaller,ligament long and narrow,triangle shape,shell margins grows saw teeth.
Ostrea cincumpits Pilsbry: shells middle side,diameter less than 10 cm,shapes triangle.Right shell concentric squama layers crossed,vertical veins spread on squama surface,shell inside surface color white or yellow white,close muscle middle of back side,egg shape.Left shell outer concentric squama sparse than right shell,marginal squama layers crossed more than innner layers,inside color similar as right shell,top sides grows saw teeth.
