Backward Witchcraft Glossary T!

Witchcraft Glossary Witchcraft Glossary give discussions to myth and ritual, alchemistry and other relatives, witchcraft and witchery!Witchcraft, in various historical, anthropological, religious and mythological contexts, is the alleged use of supernatural or magical powers. Historically, it was widely believed that witchcraft involved the use of these powers to inflict harm upon members of a community or their property.

 Veils
Since the mid 20th century, the term witchcraft has sometimes been used to distinguish between bad witchcraft and good witchcraft, with the latter often involving healing. The concept of witchcraft as harmful is normally treated as a cultural ideology, a means of explaining human misfortune by blaming it either on a supernatural entity or a known person in the community. A witch (from Old English wicce f. / wicca m.) is a practitioner of witchcraft.

 Thoth
The "witch-cult hypothesis", a controversial theory that European witchcraft was a suppressed pagan religion, was popular in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Since the mid-20th century, Witchcraft has become the self-designation of a branch of neopaganism, especially in the Wicca tradition following Gerald Gardner, who claimed a religious tradition of Witchcraft with pre-Christian roots.

Timing:Astrological timing plays a huge role in magic of any form, everyday of the week has its own special magic energy that can be incorporated into herb spells.Other few options concerning magical timing included:
The various seasons of the year:use the spring season for growth, energy, and new beginnings, and the summer months for passion, fertility, and power.Consider the fall months for prosperity, abundance, harvest, and balance, and the winter months for protection, rest, study, and meditation.
The planetary influence for the day, togethor with a list of enchantments that correspond with that particular day,the colors correspond to that specific day of the week are given, the color information used to coordinate candles,or to choose fabric to make herbal charm bags, all the week days has its different meanings,Sunday,Monday,Tuesday,Wednesday,Thursday,Friday,Saturday.
Phase of the moon or Lunar phase:work in the waxing moon to pull things toward you,in the full moon for extra power, and in the waning moon to push things away.1;work in harmony with the lunar cycles is the simplest ways to add a little oomph to your herb magic, working in accord with the lunar phases ensures that your charm and spells turn out the way you want them to.the lunar phase can be divide into five categories:New Moon,Waxing Moon,Full Moon,Waning Moon, and Dark of the Moon. Also the plants have their associated lunar goddesses.
Ritual times got great influence from planet, and it comes a Planetary Correspondences, also there are methods for determining the correct time for ritual, which means Time Correspondences.
 Tuesday:Tuesday:Planetary influence:Mars

Time Correspondences:It has historically been considered important to conduct ritual at the appropriate time, on the appropriate day for best results. This is based upon the Planetary Correspondences which assign a planetary ruler to each day of the week and each hour of the day. (See Planetary Correspondences) There are two basic methods for determining the correct time for ritual, the Traditional and Alternate Methods. The Traditional Method is the ancient one, where the hours are counted from sunrise and sunset. The exact time of sunrise and sunset must be determined to use this method. They vary throughout the year according to the length of days. The Alternate Method dispenses with the exact timing and counts the hours begining at Midnight rather than sunrise. This can be an easier method for the modern world where life does not depend upon daily cycles of light and dark. It is up to the individual practitioner to determine for themselves which method to use. They should choose the one they feel is right, both will work.
 Traditional Method:
Begin with sunrise. To look up time of sunrise go to this chart. If your city is not there, go to this calculator to find it. The first hour after sunrise is associated with the day's ruler. The hours that follow cycle through the planets and begin again at the ruler in the 8th hour.(see tables attached.)
Tender perennial:A tender perennial is a plant that, while listed as a "perennial,"will not likely survive the winter season unless steps are taken to protect it from the cold. Many varieties of basil, rosemary, and lavender are tender perennials.
Tools of Magic Trade:There are few things that come in handy when working with herbal enchantments,if you do not have the following tools,do not run around in a panic. They are included:Sickle,Scissors,Gathering Basket,Mortar and Pestle,Drying Rack,Candles and Candle Holders,Candle Colors and Magic,Fabric and Ribbon,Glass Jars,Work Space, etc.
The Lover's Spat Spell Charm:Try this herbal spell on a Friday, the day of the week that's filled with romantic and loving energies. If you need to add lunar energies to this spell, work during the full moon, for power,or the waning moon,to banish negativity. To begin, sprinkle a pinch of dried basil leaves in each of the four corners of your bedroom, working in a clockwise direction.Repeat the charm softly as you go around the room:
Around the bedroom I sprinkle these fragrant leaves,
 Now,banish anger and negativity please.
Clear the air and smooth over this lover's spat.
Happiness does prevail, our love will stand fast.
4
Thyme:Thyme (Thymus vulgaris) is a multibranching, low plant with woody stems and plentiful small, pointed, and strongly scented leaves. This shrubby, fragrant plant is a native of the Mediterranean regions.this lovely herb corresponds with the planet Venus and the element of water. This ties in neatly to this chapter's theme,as both Venus and the element of water are associated with love.Thyme has long been associated with Withcraft and magic, and is listed as one of the nine Anglo-Saxon magical herbs. There are over 300 varieties of thyme, and it is a popular culinary herb used to flavor poultry, soups, and stews. According to herbal folklore, wearing a spring of flowering thyme in your hair is believed to make you irresistible to the opposite sex.Plus,it is thought to grant you the ability to see the elves and the faeries. To the Greeks this was a symbol of courage, and the Romans believed that it was a remedy for melancholy.
This plant will attract many bees, and blossoming thyme and bees were popular themes for ladies embroidery in medieval times. It was common for this herb to be embroidered on a lady's scarf and them presented as a favor to her knight.I would imagine this was a quiet way to give the bearer's courage a magical boost, and to symbolize his lady's affection.
Thyme was,and still is today, planted into a low herbal hedge for knot gardens. It was also planted togethor with lavender to help both plants grow stronger. This is often referred to these days as companion planting.
An old herbal spell calls for a maiden to place a sprig of thyme in one of her shoes and a sprig of rosemary in the other. The maiden was to sprinkle her shoes with water three times and place them alongside her bed. Then she said a prayer and turned in for the night, and was to expect a vision of her future husband. The original spell was to be performed on the night of January 20,on St.Agnes' Eve.Nowadays,Try this herb spell on the night of a full moon.See All in Good Thyme:A Divination Spell.
Garden Thyme(Thymus vulgaris),Wild Thyme(thymus serpyllum). Also known as Common Thyme,Mother of Thyme.A Druid sacred herb.A magical cleansing bath can be made by pouring a tea of thyme and majoram into the bathwater.A pillow stuffed with thyme cures nightmares. When attending a funeral, wear a sprig of thyme to repel the negativity of the mourners.
Thyme is one of the Norse sacred herbs burned to purify temples and objects. It is a favorite plant of Elves.Crush a leaf against your third eye in the center of your forehead to enhance your psychic powers.5
Thyme is connected to virginity, youth, freshness, sweetness, beginnings, and therefore, the Maiden Goddess.
"In my garden grew plenty of thyme
It would flourish by night and by day
Oe'r the wall came a lad
And he took all I had
And he stole my thyme away..."
 ---traditional

Remember that in the old days virginity did not mean chastity, but selfhood.A virgin was a woman who "belonged to no man," though she may have had as many lovers as she wished. With thyme you can cast a spell for preserving your autonomy, giving you courage for new undertakings and risks, starting new projects, and so on.Traditional writings say use thyme beneath your pillow to dispel nightmares;crush and breathe in fresh thyme to cheer yourself up when melancholy.Refresh and renew yourself with a magical thyme bath.7
Holy Thistle:Holy Thistle(Cnicus benedictus,Carduus benefictus). Also known as Blessed Thistle and St.Benedict Thistle.A Druid sacred herb,it is primarily for protection and strength.Grown in the garden,it turns away thieves.
Trefoil:Trefoil(Trifolium spp). Also known as Purle clover,Shamrock,Three-Leaved Grass.A Druid sacred herb symbolizing the triple deities.Always leave something in payment when you take trefoil, because it is a favorite herb of the "little people" and fairies.A pinch of ginger or a little milk poured onto the ground are acceptable gifts.Decorations of trefoil on the altar honor all triple deities.Carry a three-leaf clover for protection and luck;a four-leaf one to avoid military service.
Tirlich or tyrlych:Tirlich or tyrlych. This was gathered on St John's Eve on Bald Mountain near Kiev, where the witches gathered for their Sabbath. For this reason, anyone wishing to gather some had to protect himself with some plakun,q.v.The juice of this plant was squeezed out and rubbed under the armpits by were-animals when performing magic.Dal' identifies the plant as Gentiana amarella and adds the detail that tirlich and toads' bones calm the anger of those in power. He also gives tirlich as a synonym of bad'ia,identified as Typha.Afanas'ev quotes the belief that this root can turn a man into a were-animal and enable him to fly.For this reason witches rubbed it into their armpits and the backs of their knees to give them the power to fly up chimneys. The etymology of the word tirlich is given as 'unclear' in Vasmer, but the association with witches' sabbaths and flying ointment suggests a West European origin, and the associattion with were-animals further suggests a connection with German Tier.6
